Neevo Folk Group
Profile
Neevo folk group (Neevo is the ancient name of Ladoga Lake) was founded under the aegis of St. Petersburg Society of Estonian Culture in 1998.
The founder and the first artistic director was Krista Belousova, then the group was led by Leonida Brashkina (from 2004 to 2010) with her assistant, Marina Akimova.
Marina Akimova has been the artistic director of the group since 2010.
The repertory features Estonian folk and stage dances.
The group regularly performs on various concert venues of St. Petersburg and Leningrad Oblast, often takes part in festivals in Russia, Estonia, Finland, Latvia as a representative of Estonian dancing culture and national clothes.
The costumes of the Neevo group members have been made by hand, thanks to the work if the Branch of Folk Art Club and represent the rich range of Estonian traditional clothes.
The group maintains friendly relations with in on-stage performance groups in Estonia.
